Update:

Good Morning Football host Kyle Brandt has told the New England Patriots that it’s time to “move on” from the glory years of Tom Brady and Co. - and return to winning ways.

Patriots struggle in post-Brady-Belichick era

With Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as head coach, the Patriots established an NFL dynasty during the first two decades of the 21st century, winning six Super Bowls between 2004 and 2018.

But since Brady’s departure in 2019, New England has made the playoffs just once, losing 47-17 to the Buffalo Bills in the 2021 Wild Card round.

Belichick, who now coaches the North Carolina Tar Heels in college football, departed after a 2023 season in which the Patriots registered a 4-13 record - the team’s worst since 1992. Last year, under the since-fired head coach Jerod Mayo, New England again finished on 4-13.

“It is time to win”

Speaking three months out from the team’s 2025 season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders - a team Brady now co-owns - Brandt urged New England to “start a new era” under their freshly-appointed head coach, former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel.

“It’s time to move on,” Brandt said this week. “Tom Brady now is an owner of another AFC team and will walk into Foxborough Week 1 looking to burn that place down.

“[Former tight end] Rob Gronkowski has been gone for seven years from the Patriots. Bill Belichick is a college football coach at a basketball school.

“The last five years, the Patriots have played one playoff game, in which they were annihilated by a Bills franchise that they used to own.

It is time to turn the page for this organization. It is time to start a new era. Listen, Boston reference: It reminded me of [former Celtics head coach] Rick Patino saying: Look, Robert Parish and Larry Bird and Kevin McHale are not walking through that door.

Neither is Brady and Gronk and [former wide receiver] Edelman. Vrabel is, but he’s the coach. He doesn’t have the pads on.

“Was this franchise built up by this magical sixth-round pick that they made some 25 years ago? Or are they more? I think they’re more.

“The Patriots were in Super Bowls before Tom Brady. [Franchise owner] Robert Kraft had this team in a Super Bowl before Tom Brady. But it is time. It is time to win.”

When is the Patriots’ first game in 2025?

The Patriots’ Week 1 clash with the Raiders is scheduled for September 7 at Gillette Stadium, with kick-off at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT.

Before then, Vrabel’s team plays the first of its preseason clashes on August 8, at home to the Washington Commanders. New England then has two road preseason games, against the Minnesota Vikings on August 16, and against the New York Giants on August 21.
