Miami Dolphins VP Jason Jenkins is dead at 47 but how did he die?
In what was surely a blow to both the team and the wider community, the much loved and widely respected exec passed away.
This week was a sad one for the Miami Dolphins and the community in which they are located, as a pillar of the franchise passed away.
Dolphins’ Jason Jenkins dead at 47
With the sad news now confirmed, Jason Jenkins, the Dolphins senior vice president of communications and community affairs A pillar of the Miami Dolphins and the surrounding community has died. The regrettable announcement was made on Saturday during the halftime break of the Dolphins’ preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jenkins was 47. According to reports, Jenkins died on Saturday following a medical emergency. It is understood, that there are no further details at this time regarding the cause of death.
Who was Jason Jenkins?
As per reports, Jenkins was widely regarded as “the longtime right-hand man to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross” and moreover the face of the Dolphins’ outreach programs and efforts in the South Florida community. He began working for the team in 2009 and reached his current position in 2015, where he became a constant presence in Dolphins community events. A multifaceted executive, Jenkins originally joined the Dolphins in 2009 and would eventually take up his aforementioned position in 2015, where he was constantly connected with and working on the Dolphins’ community events. In addition to his role with the franchise, Jenkins also managed media outreach for Hard Rock Stadium, as well as Formula 1′s Miami Grand Prix.
So dedicated were his efforts to improve the community, that Jenkins was awarded a Corporate Pillar Award by Miami-Dade County’s Black Affairs Advisory Council. If that wasn’t enough, Jenkins was also reportedly a board member of the Anti-Defamation League of Florida, Breakthrough Miami, Dolphins Challenge Cancer, Pro Sports Assembly, Urban League of Broward County, Women of Tomorrow and the YMCA of Miami.
A loss felt by the Miami Dolphins
It wasn’t long before the Dolphins issued a statement and front and center was the man who worked closely with Jenkins, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Indeed, in an emotional statement Ross didn’t hide how important Jenkins was to the organization and how hard he himself had been hit by the executive’s passing.
“I am heartbroken. Jason Jenkins was an icon in the Miami community, and above all a kind and incredible family man. His dedication to our organization was unmatched. He was my friend but most of all he was a generous soul. My heart is with Elizabeth and his children tonight. The Jenkins family will always be a part of the Dolphins family.” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was also on had and though his tenure with the team has only been seven months, he could be seen fighting tears while speaking on the loss of Jenkins. Jason Jenkins is survived by his wife Elizabeth and their three children Liya, Aiden and Sloane.
