Michael Irvin confirms devastating news about wife’s health

Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin made an announcement about his wife Sandy ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer, wide receiver Michael Irvin attended the soft opening of his new sports bar, Playmakers 88 ahead of the NBA Finals Game 5 between the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. Those in attendance were not expecting the announcement he made during halftime.

Michael Irvin’s wife dealing with health crisis

Irvin’s wife, Sandy, is suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 58. She has already been living with the disease for five to six years now. Michael and Sandy have been together for 39 years and married for 34. During that time, she stood by his side as he became a legend in Dallas as part of the Cowboys’ trio of the ‘90s, when he helped them win three Super Bowl titles.

Now, he stands by her side as she goes through this awful disease. The disease has advanced so that Sandy now struggles to walk and speak on her own and requires round-the-clock care. Irvin has said he will not put her into a facility. “If anyone has earned the right to stay in her house, MY WIFE HAS!!! That I shall honor,” Irvin said. “No matter what it takes.”

Irvin said that he made the announcement during the restaurant’s opening because he was reminded of how much Sandy loved the chef’s wings at another restaurant where he worked.

“When I’m working and she is a very finicky eater, and I’m on the road, she would always call me and say baby, ‘I’m hungry,’” Irvin told the story. “I’m literally on the show. In the breaks, I would call and say ‘my wife just called, get her some chicken to the house.’ She would only eat the wings from here. No other wings.”
