The Dallas Cowboys’ elimination by the Green Bay Packers was disappointing. It was widely expected that Mike McCarthy would be fired after his third consecutive playoff loss.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys will not be making any changes to their coaching structure and will continue to have Mike McCarthy as their head coach. Despite their recent defeat, many Cowboys fans have requested the owner of the franchise, Jerry Jones, to make every effort to hire Bill Belichick who recently ended his employment with the New England Patriots.

Jones issued a statement noting that McCarthy’s stay is because he has progressed as the seasons have passed in Arlington. The businessman also noted that all members of the franchise will be thoroughly evaluated during the offseason.

McCarthy signed a five-year contract in January 2020 with the Cowboys. In four years as head coach of ‘America’s Team,’ McCarthy has 42 wins in the regular season against 25 losses, and in the playoffs, he has a 1-3 record.

The winningest head coaches in Cowboys history

The Dallas Cowboys have had nine head coaches since its founding in 1960. Among them, Tom Landry was the most successful, achieving 250 wins in the regular season during his tenure as coach until 1988.

The top three coaches with the most wins in the franchise are Jason Garrett (85 wins), Jimmy Johnson (44 wins), and Mike McCarthy (42 wins). McCarthy requires only three more victories to surpass Johnson and take third place on the list.
