Jones named Week 1 starter

Taylor got the start against the Jets after starting quarterback Daniel Jones was being reserved for Week 1. Late in the first quarter the former Houston Texan rolled out of the pocket and was hit hard by rookie defensive end Micheal Clemons.

The Giants back up jogged off the field after getting attention from the medical staff, but after getting a quick observation on the sideline he was carted off the field.

The Giants have been far from convinced with their starting quarterback Daniel Jones, despite naming him QB1 for the opening week of the regular season.

Webb will be back up while Taylor is out

Taylor was a starter with the Buffalo Bills from 2015-2017, and was the Week 1 starter for the Houston Texans last year before suffering a strained hamstring in the second week of the season.

New York brought in the former Pro Bowler to provide some added competition at the quarterback position. Jones is entering his fourth season as the Giants starter, but his production has decreased since his rookie year.

There is no word on how long Taylor will be out. The Giants will await word from team doctors, and in the meantime Davis Webb will be the second string quarterback.

Webb has been in the league since 2017, but has yet to throw a pass in a regular season game.
