Newsom mocks Trump after NFL crowd boos president
The president was met with loud boos at a Veterans Day NFL game, and Gavin Newsom wasted no time responding.

President Donald Trump faced another frosty reception over the weekend, this time at an NFL game. The 79-year-old president was loudly booed by fans at Northwest Stadium in Maryland during Sunday’s matchup between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions.
Trump appeared on the Jumbotron from a corporate suite while reading the military Oath of Enlistment to swear in new service members. The boos from the crowd nearly drowned him out, creating an awkward moment on Veterans Day weekend.
Gavin Newsom’s brutal reaction to Trump boos
Within hours, California Governor Gavin Newsom shared footage of the incident, taken from Fox News’ broadcast, on his press office’s X account. His caption was short but unmistakable: “Hahahahahahhahahahaha.”

The post quickly went viral, racking up thousands of reposts and reactions as users debated whether the crowd’s jeers reflected growing fatigue with Trump or simple political division. One viral comment read, “America’s had enough and they’re making it loud and clear.”
Trump’s supporters were quick to fire back. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson called the booing “disrespectful”, while the Libs of TikTok account accused Democrats of showing “no respect for our brave troops.”
This is far from the first time Trump has been met with boos at public events. Earlier this year, he received similar reactions at the U.S. Open, a Yankees game, and the FIFA World Cup final in July.
Who Gavin Newsom is, and why he often clashes with Trump
California Governor Gavin Newsom, 58, has become one of Donald Trump’s most consistent critics in national politics. A Democrat who has governed California since 2019, Newsom has built his political brand in part by contrasting his state’s progressive policies with Trump’s conservative agenda.
Newsom has frequently sparred with Trump over issues such as climate change, immigration, and pandemic response. Trump criticized California’s wildfire management and homelessness rates, while Newsom accused Trump of undermining science and spreading misinformation.
Trump has continued to take swipes at California and its leadership, often using the state as a symbol of what he calls “failed liberal governance”. Newsom, in turn, has leaned into the rivalry, using social media and interviews to push back, sometimes with humor or thinly veiled mockery, as he did on Sunday.
Their feud has also come to represent a larger clash between blue-state and red-state America, and their competing visions for the country’s future.
