The NFL has completed an investigation into a ‘drink-spilling’ incident at Bank of America Stadium last Sunday, deciding that the fan involved had done so accidentally.

A video on social media showed a drink fall from the stands and land on Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown as he entered the tunnel. Soon after the footage emerged the league announced that they would investigate the matter.

However after reviewing in-stadium security camera footage the NFL announced that they would not be taking any action against the supporter involved, deeming the incident an accident.

“The league’s review of the matter determined that portions of a drink were accidentally spilled on the Cincinnati player as Bengals fans attempted to catch the gloves he tossed to them,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed on Thursday.

Brown added that he was happy to consider the matter closed, but revealed that it might affect his post-match practice of handing out team kit to supporters.

“It would suck if people are doing stuff with intent,” Brown told ESPN on Thursday. “Honestly happier it’s a Bengals fan, too. I’m just glad they got the gloves at the end of the day.”

“Maybe I got to hand it up now... I’m not going to throw it up anymore.”

Brown and the Bengals lost three straight games to start the 2024 season but got back to winning form against the Panthers last weekend. On Sunday they travel to the New York Giants, who come into the game with an identical 1-3 record from the first four matches.
