The NFL appears to be experiencing something of a boom when it comes to viewer ratings, with the week 14 game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions setting a Thursday Night Football record for Amazon Prime Video, less than a week after the league announced bumper Thanksgiving audience figures.

Record-breaking Thanskgiving ratings

According to the data, the three Thanksgiving Day games (Bears - Lions, Giants - Cowboys, Giants - Packers) averaged 34.2 million viewers, making it the highest average recorded at that time of year since tracking began in 1988.

The total unduplicated audience for the three games reached 141 million, setting a new record for the third consecutive year.

In terms of digital streaming, the three games generated an average minute audience of 1.1 million, the highest ever for Thanksgiving Day, marking a 36% increase compared to last year.

How many people watched Packers-Lions in week 14?

Now, Prime Video has revealed the Lions’ victory over the Packers averaged 17.3 million viewers, which was both a Thursday Night Football record for the platform (which has held the slot since 2022) and the best streaming audience for any regular-season game ever.

That figure surpassed the 16.2 million set by the Cowboys’ win over the Giants on September 26 this year and was also up a whopping 41% from TNF in week 14 in 2023.

Since Thursday Night Football began in 2006, the Packers-Lions game is the third most-watched week 14 matchup on any network.

With plenty still to play for as the regular season draws to a close, should we be expecting more records to tumble?
