The Kansas City Chiefs have won two Super Bowls in a row and three in the last four years. As the top seed in the AFC, they were rewarded the first-round bye week in the playoffs as well as home-field advantage in the Divisional Round. They are now getting ready to play their first playoff game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, January 18.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud and the Texans are coming off of a convincing win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are going into this game with one week of extra rest. With the best record in the NFL, the extra rest, the home-field advantage, and their postseason experience, the Chiefs are the easy favorites to beat the Texans. However, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes knows better than to underestimate Houston.

Mahomes praises Texans team ahead of AFC Divisional Round

The Texans finished their season 10-7 and at the top of the AFC South. They destroyed the Chargers to the tune of 32-12. Mahomes knows it won’t be smooth sailing on Saturday.

“That defense is extremely real. They have a great quarterback and a great coach,” said Mahomes.

The Chiefs and Texans played each other not too long ago in the regular season, on December 21. The Chiefs beat the Texans 27-19. Stroud finished with 244 yards and two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions. Mahomes finished with 260 yards and a touchdown, and he did so on a hurt ankle.

“We knew when we played them this last time, it was a hard-fought game. They get after the quarterback really well,” said Mahomes. “They have really good secondary players and the linebackers fly around. So it’ll be a great challenge for us and we’ll have to play our best football.”
