Pittsburgh Steelers fans criticize quarterback Russell Wilson after loss to Buffalo Bills. Why are they angry?
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback appears to have incurred the wrath of the team’s fans following what was a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Though these are early days, it would be fair to say that the Steelers’ QB is yet to show the form that once made him a Super Bowl winner and the fans aren’t having it. Indeed, many made their feelings abundantly clear following another disappointing preseason outing.
Steelers fans rip Russell Wilson’s performance
Amid the rebuild that’s been taking place in Pittsburgh, the Steelers signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal over the offseason, with the hopes that the 35-year-old could find the form that saw him lift the Vince Lombardi trophy some years ago with the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately for the franchise, Wilson has failed to do that thus far, and that was evident on Saturday as he had yet another subpar outing with the Steelers, ultimately losing to the Buffalo Bills 9-3.
Truthfully, since joining the Steelers Wilson has at no time looked any better than the player he was across two seasons with the Denver Broncos. Keep in mind, that player was one that the Broncos saw fit to trade i.e., that notion does not bode well for Pittsburgh. Indeed, it is with that idea as context that Wilson’s preseason debut against Buffalo is made all the more poignant when considering the fact that he failed to put any points on the board despite being part of five separate drives.

In total, Wilson completed 8 of 10 attempts for just 47 yards and was sacked on three occasions by the Bills’ ever-present defense. Needless to say, postgame comments from fans on social media were less than kind when it came to Wilson’s game. With that, you can take a look below to see some of the more critical takes on the quarterback’s performance, though it should be said that these are in fact early days such that it is reasonable to believe Wilson can improve in time. The Steelers will get their season underway when they play against the Atlanta Falcons on the road in Week 1 of the 2024-25 NFL regular season. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 8th, but first take a look below for the above-mentioned reaction from fans:
From the day the Steelers acquired Russell Wilson, I spent the entire NFL offseason explaining this is not the Pro Bowler from Seattle.

The Broncos are paying about $40 million for him NOT to play for them.
As I said THE ENTIRE TIME, Russ holds the ball too long, goes off… https://t.co/y9BEMkIwhh
Even if the Broncos lose every game, I'm so happy he isn't our QB anymore. https://t.co/hBR00Ktfiq

If you’re paying attention, Russell Wilson still looks horrible
