Rams 12 vs 6 49ers summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 15

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - DECEMBER 12: Joshua Karty #16 of the Los Angeles Rams kicks a field goal against the San Francisco 49ers during the fourth quarter in the game at Levi's Stadium on December 12, 2024 in Santa Clara, California. Anytime a defense holds a team to just six points, saying they played well is an understatement. The Rams came out and shut down a battered Niners offense, and in a rainy, sloppy game that didn't have a single big play or turnover, LA's defense came up with the play of the night. Darious Williams picked off Brock Purdy in the end zone to keep the Niners from taking the lead or tying it up with 5:00 to go.

LA would drive down the field and kick an insurance field goal to go up 12-6 with under 20 seconds to go. The Rams stay alive in the air tight race for the NFC West while the Niners chances have just gone from almost impossible to virtually none.

The rain let up a little in the 2nd half and both teams started to move the ball a little easier down the field, but that didn't translate to touchdowns. Stafford completed just four passes for 23 yards in the first half, but ended the night 16/27 for 160 yards. Puka Nacua had another stellar night despite the weather, going for 97 yards on 7 catches.

The Los Angeles Rams still control their own playoff destiny after going into San Francisco and coming out with a huge divisional win on the road to keep pace in the NFC West. Darious Williams had the biggest play of the night, intercepting a pass late in the 4th quarter, but it was Josh Karty who lead the Rams past San Francisco scoring all 12 of LA's points, hitting all four of his field goals.

It was an ugly game from start to finish as the wind and rain kept both offenses in check for most of the night. There were six punts in the first quarter and 11 in the first half. The Niners were the first ones on the board after Jake Moody hit a 52 yard field goal, but the Rams would eventually punch back. Kyren Williams put the team on his shoulders on a night that the offense couldn't find a groove. He had 108 yards on 29 carries just days after he carried the ball 29 times against the Bills.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM THE BAY!!!

The Rams won the toss and differed so here comes Brock Purdy and the Niners to start the game from their 30.

as.com

Prediction

These rivalry games are always close to call, but I must say I was surprised to see the Rams as an underdog. After their win against the Bills last week, and with Nacua and Kupp healthy I think they have more weapons on the offensive end. If the Niners don’t have Joey Bosa, which looks like a real possibility, Stafford is going to have plenty of time to find his receivers and that could be a real problem for San Fran. The Niners know they can’t lose this game, but they have failed to show that champion resolve that they have been capable of showing over the last few years.

Rams win 24-17.

Remaining schedules

With four weeks to go, peeping at schedules has now become more important than ever. All four teams in the NFC West will want to stay in their lane, focused on winning their remaining games, but they will be tempted to look at the rest of the divisions’ remaining schedules, and so will we. The Seahawks have a couple tough games against NFC North opponents, LA control their own destiny with three of their four games against the other NFC West teams looking for the division title. Arizona have a couple of games against the league’s worst teams before taking on two NFC West opponents. Finally, the Niners have tonight’s game before heading to Miami and Detroit and finally a game in Arizona to wrap up the season.

Seahawks: vs. GB, vs. MIN, @ CHI, @ LA

Rams: @ SF, @ NYJ, vs. ARI, vs. SEA

Cardinals: vs. NE, @ CAR, @ LA,

Niners: vs. LA, @ MIA, vs. DET, @ ARI

as.com

NFC Standings

Taking a look at the NFC playoff picture, we see the Lions at the top of the conference and in the drivers seat for the one seed. The Eagles and Vikings are sitting right behind them waiting for any slip up from DET and then the Packers are sitting pretty for a Wild Card spot at 9-4. The Commanders are sitting just a game behind the Packers for the final Wild Card spot, but coming out of their BYE they might be looking over their shoulder at the NFC West teams chasing the Seahawks at the top of the division. While the Rams, Niners, and Cardinals will be chasing the Seahawks for the NFC West title, if the Commanders slip, a team from this division could sneak into a Wild Card spot that has looked like Washington’s for most of this season.

Star watch: Niners

After injuries to McCaffery and Brandon Aiyuk, even more responsibility has fallen on the shoulders of Brock Purdy who snapped out of his three game slump during the Niners three game slide. He had less than 200 yards in all three of those game, and just 94 yards on a snowy night in Buffalo. Last week he had a much needed 300 yard game as the Niners wiped the floor with the Bears. Lately it’s been Jauan Jenning and George Kittle stepping up and catching the majority of the passes, but were are going to see a little more of Deebo Samuel who had to clarify a message that he later deleted saying “Not struggling at all, just not getting the ball.” All of these struggles, and internal struggles can be calmed with a win tonight. But if the Niners lose, watch out. This once rock solid franchise could be approaching some choppy waters in the Bay.

Star watch: Rams

When Matt Stafford has time in the pocket, he is maybe the best quarterback in the league. The problem is he doesn’t always have the time in the pocket to let his receivers routes develop. Since Puka and Cooper have come back, teams are having to balance their pressure up front with coverage in the secondary and that indecision has given Stafford more time and space to work with. He had 317 yards in the Week 1 loss to the Lions, and the his numbers dipped as his two top receivers were sidelined with injuries. Since they came back, he’s had five games of 280 yards or more, and six of those seven games since the WR duo came back, Nacua has been the top receiver going for over 100 yards in four of those games. Stafford still uses Kupp as his security blanket, but Nacua is his new top target, and the game in Buffalo was added proof that the second year man isn’t just the best WR in LA, he might be the best receiver in the league.

Season recap: Niners

The Niners season has been marred by injuries since before kicking off Week 1. After just missing out on the Super Bowl last year, there were high hopes for this team, but those hopes would turn to despair as Christian McCaffery was a late scratch in Week 1, with an achilles injury that would turn into something much more serious than originally thought. He had to miss the first eight games of the season and the Niners went 4-4 in that time. He returned for the Niners game in Tampa Bay and things looked like they were going to turn around as San Fran climbed above .500 and they had their star back. A three game losing streak has set them back in the race for the NFC West after losses to Seattle, Green Bay and Buffalo, and now they are hanging on by a thread following their first blowout win over Chicago last week. It’s all or nothing for Purdy and the Niners, who have been hearing rumblings that this could mark the end of the San Francisco reign in the NFC.

Season recap: Rams

The Rams’ season, like a lot of teams, has been dramatically affected by injury. Luckily for them most of those injuries came early in the season and they have had time to recover and get healthy for the most important stretch of the campaign. After taking the Detroit Lions to OT and losing in Week 1 to show the world that they can compete with the top teams in the league, they started the season 1-4, and were in a bad spot a month into the season. Puka and Kupp came back in the same game and all of the sudden things started to turn around in LA. They have won six of their last eight and are now righting the thick of the division race, but none of those wins were bigger or more important than the one last week against the Bills. That showed that this team is healthy, and ready to compete again with the best teams in the league.

Last week: Niners

The Niners could have just thrown in the towel last week after seeing Christian McCaffery go down for what is potentially a season ending injury. Instead they came out and gave their most resounding performance of the season, dominating the Chicago Bears from start to finish. The defense looked like the defense that has been the back bone of this team for the last five years, holding the Bears to just four yards in the first half. The Niners offense, meanwhile, went up 24-0 before the halftime break thanks to a pair of Brock Purdy TDs to Jauan Jennings and a rushing TD from Isaac Guerendo. Guerendo would get another one before the afternoon was done, ending his day with 78 yards and two TDs on 15 carries and Purdy had his best day of the season going for 325 yards and a couple TDs on 20/25 passing. Could this have been the game they needed to kick start a sprint to the finish line? We will find out tonight from Levi’s Stadium.

Last week: Rams

The Rams hosted one of the hottest teams in the league last week and outlasted the Buffalo Bills in the highest scoring game of the year. Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen went toe to toe in a heavyweight bout that went all 12 rounds. Kyren Williams ran in the opening TD of the game on the first drive of the afternoon, but the Bills responded with a TD of their own. LA kicked a field goal on their next possession, and then blocked a punt that was taken back for a TD to go up 17-7 early in the 2nd quarter. Puka Nacua ran in a TD late in the 2nd quarter to put the Rams up 24-14, and on the other side of the halftime break Williams ran in his second TD of the day to go up 31-14 midway through the third quarter. Josh Allen would will his side back into the game, becoming the first player in the history of the league to score six TDs, three passing TDs and three rushing TDs. With the Rams holding on to a three point lead, Stafford led an 11 play drive that included a 4th and 5 conversion at the BUF 35 to extend the drive and set up a 19 yard TD catch and run from Nacua. Stafford ended the night with 320 yards and 2 TDs while Nacua had 162 yards and 1 TD receiving and another rushing TD to keep the Rams just a game behind the division leading Seahawks.

We are live from San Fran

Hello everyone and welcome to the Bay Area where we the Niners no their lives are on the line tonight. They come in to the final stretch of the season banged up, missing their super star running back, and under .500, but they still have a slight chance of winning the division. The Niners know they have to win each of their next four games to even have a chance at a playoff spot, but before they worry about the rest of their games, they have to survive tonight’s game against the Rams. LA has bounced back after a terrible start to the season and are now sitting a game back of the Seahawks after getting healthy and winning six of their last eight games. They currently control their own destiny, and if they win the rest of their remaining games they win the division and are in the playoffs. If they lose tonight, things much more complicated, which is why tonight is such a big game for both teams.
