Packers vs Rams: The lay of the land
Coming into this Week 15 of “Monday Night Football” the Los Angeles Rams are sitting on a record of 4-9, while the Green Bay Packers are on 5-8. That’s to say, both teams are struggling this season, leaving fans and rivals alike a little confused as to exactly what is going on. Indeed, it’s hard to understand how the defending Super Bowl champions could be en route to their first losing season. Then we’ve got their opponents, who have the defending MVP in their ranks and are on the verge of their first season with double-digit losses since 2008.
The Rams aren’t good
As we established above, The Rams have been having a season to forget. What’s even more puzzling is that they’ve struggled even when their stars were healthy. Their newly arrived QB, Baker Mayfield did his best on his ‘Thursday Night Football’ debut last week, having been acquired by the team just two days before and to be fair, the former Browns and Jaguars signal caller did lead them to a win. Yet, the reality is the Rams won’t make the post season this year, which means there are some big decisions to be made in the coming offseason.
What’s going on with the Packers?
Like the Rams, the Packers have definitely been struggling and while people have criticized their receivers or lack thereof, the reality is Aaron Rodgers has not played well. Is there any truth to the complaints about receivers? Sort of. In Christian Watson, Green Bay definitely has one for the future, but in terms of the here and now that can’t be expected of him. Then there is also Allen Lazard who is dependable but by no means prolific. In reality the Packers don’t have an out and out No. 1. On the other hand, when we consider what Rodgers has shown us across his career, his current dip in form has got to be pointed out as one of the central reasons for the Packers’ plight.
Packers vs Rams: The Prediction
To be clear, the Packers and Rams are two of the worst teams in the league this season. With temperatures expected to be frigid, we’re expecting this to be low scoring game between two teams, that will more than likely try to run the ball. With the Packers the healthier of the two teams and Baker Mayfield still learning the playbook having recently arrived, this should be a relatively low scoring affair. On that note, we’re going with a 21-14 Packers win.
