Ravens vs Chiefs head to head: record and which team has won the most in NFL Playoffs?

The Ravens and the Chiefs have both won multiple Super Bowls but meetings between the teams have been relatively infrequent.

Super Bowl LVIII is fast approaching and of the 14 teams who qualified for the NFL playoffs, only four remain. The Detroit Lions will play only their second ever NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, while the Baltimore Ravens host the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC equivalent.

The Ravens’ and Chiefs’ Super Bowl victories

The Ravens and the Chiefs are no strangers to success in the latter stages of the postseason, with both teams multiple Super Bowl winners. Baltimore have reached the end-of-season finale twice and won on both occasions (against the New York Giants in 2000 and the 49ers in 2012).

Kansas City are, of course, the defending champions after their 2023 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and also beat the 49ers four years earlier at Super Bowl LIV. In between, they won the AFC Championship in 2020 but fell at the final hurdle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Regular playoffs participants

Since the Ravens foundation in 1996, the same year they joined the National Football League, they have appeared in the playoffs on 15 occasions, while the Chiefs, NFL members since 1970, have taken part 22 times. Yet Sunday’s game at M&T Bank Stadium in Maryland will be just the second postseason meeting between the two teams.

Chiefs lead Ravens on head to head

All in all, the Ravens and the Chiefs have faced each other on 12 previous occasions, with the men from Missouri holding a 7-5 winning record. Their first clash came in October 1999, when Kansas City ran out comfortable 35-7 winners in Baltimore. Their most recent encounter, on the other hand, ended in a narrow 36-35 victory for the Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2021, and was achieved thanks to a stunning comeback in the final quarter, which they won 12-0.

The one previous postseason game was an AFC Wild Card playoffs match in the 2010 season and ended in a resounding 30-7 triumph for the Ravens, who were then eliminated in the Divisional playoffs by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
