Running back Kenyan Drake has retired from the NFL but who is he?
Following almost a decade in the NFL, the veteran running back has decided to hang up his cleats and with that, we take a look back at Kenyan Drake’s career.
With training camp for most NFL teams either already started or about to begin, it’s a time of movement for all franchises. From the signing of new players to the releasing of old ones as each team tries to sort out its rosters. One player who won’t be part of all of that is running back Kenyan Drake who has chosen to call time on his career.
Kenyan Drake retires from the NFL
On Friday evening veteran running back Kenyan Drake took to social media where he announced his retirement from the NFL. In a post made on Instagram, the 30-year-old lamented the passage of time as he spoke of the highs and lows and above all the teams that made up a career that he enjoyed for almost ten years.
“Hard to believe eight seasons have come and gone. I’ve loved the journey - the wins, the moments big and small, the comradery, the energy, all of it,” Drake wrote. “Ready to enjoy a little retirement and see where the next chapter takes me. Thanks to everyone that was along for the ride with me.”
Where details are concerned, Drake’s eight years in the NFL were spent between some of the NFL’s biggest teams including the Miami Dolphins, the Arizona Cardinals, the Las Vegas Raiders, the Baltimore Ravens, and most recently, the Green Bay Packers with whom he was set to return this coming season.
In total, the former third-round pick out of Alabama (2016) rushed for 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns, both of which ranked in the top 25 among active players. Sadly, that form was not seen 2023 - his last season - as he only managed to lay in three games without registering a single yard for the Ravens or Packers. Indeed, Drake’s only titles were in college when he won the national championships with Alabama in 2012 and 2015.
