Despite a win back in Week 2, Tom Brady has never had much success against the men from New Orleans. Can he change that stat tonight?

Saints vs Buccaneers: The lay of the land

Both Tampa and New Orleans lost last week. Where the Bucs were concerned, Tom Brady and Co. were embarrassing in the way they lost in overtime to the Browns. As for the Saints, they were shutout by the 49ers, which is to say it was not a good look for either team. It goes without saying, that both sides will be itching to get back to winning ways. When they met back in Week 2, it was a low scoring affair in which New Orleans QB Jameis Winston was intercepted three times, with one of them being returned for a touchdown. A win is absolutely necessary for both, but there can only be one.

Saints’ Andy Dalton has been more adventurous

With all due respect to the Saints, of there is one thing that’s going to help in this game, it’s the fact that the Bucs are limping at the moment. Tampa Bay has listed Sean Murphy-Bunting, Antoine Winfield Jr., and Mike Edwards as doubtful, and Vita Vea and Akiem Hicks as questionable. That’s to say, that no matter how you cut it, the Bucs are not in great shape defensively which in turn bodes well for Saints QB Andy Dalton who’s been showing a greater willingness to drive with purpose recently. From an average of 6.8 yards per attempt via the air in 2020, Dalton is now up to 7.9.

Tom Brady and the Saints have never been friends

As we mentioned above, these two met back in Week 2 and the Bucs emerged with a win. It was Tom Brady’s first regular-season win against the Saints as a Buccaneer and while we’re sure that pleased him, his performance in that game was nothing to write home about. With that said, Brady will be eager to prove it was no fluke against a defense that has largely had his number under head coach Dennis Allen. One thing that will work in Brady’s favor on Monday night, is the fact that like his own Bucs, the Saints are running light on defense. Payton Turner and P.J. Williams are out, while Marshon Lattimore, Pete Werner, Bradley Roby, and Kentavius Street have all been listed as questionable.

Saints vs Buccaneers: The Prediction

Given the aforementioned injury issues for both sides, we’re guessing this one is going to be relatively close, however, Tampa Bay does have the better QB and that’s most likely where the difference is going to come in this one. For our money, we’re going with a 20-16 Bucs win.

Saints vs Buccaneers: TB12 has never dominated New Orleans

Kryptonite is probably a good word to describe what the New Orleans Saints have been for Tom Brady in recent years. Indeed, since the seven-time Super Bowl champion arrived in Tampa Bay back in 2020, he’s 1-4 against them in the regular season. Whether it was consistent errors, including an eye-opening eight interceptions, or an ability to force him to be more cautious in his approach, the reality is its worked. Can New Orleans continue their habit of exposing the people’s vote for GOAT? We’re not sure, but we’re going to enjoy watching them try.
