The star wide receiver’s recent move on social media will definitely spark speculation, but just what is the end game here?

Could it be that we are about to witness another major move involving a wide receiver, after the 49er ominously removed all of his social media posts that were related to the team?

49ers Deebo Samuel clears team related social media posts

Its been a completely wild off season in the NFL this year and most definitely where wide receivers are concerned. We’ve seen Davante Adams was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders, while the Kansas City Chiefs’ star Tyreek Hill moved on to the Miami Dolphins in what were both big money blockbuster deals. Yet it seems that the dust hasn’t settled just yet as news surrounding other talented wide outs continues to circulate.

Most recently, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel did his part to get the rumor mill going as he unceremoniously removed his 49ers profile picture on Instagram, un-followed the team and went on to delete well over 80 different posts from his account. Could this be the start of something big? There are many out there who think so.

There’s also DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown and Terry McLaurin

It should be noted that Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which could suggest that he’s trying to force his way out. On the other hand there are actually a handful of other top WRs who could soon be on the market. DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin and A.J. Brown for example have been at the center of intense speculation recently and to add fuel to the fire, it was reported just last week that the New York Jets were “keeping an eye” on Metcalf, Brown and Samuel, having failed in their attempt to bring the previously mentioned Hill to the big apple.

So what to make of Deebo Samuel’s move?

The interesting thing to note here is that the 49ers’ WR just came from what has to be considered an exceptional year. With 77 passes caught for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns, he was also actually used as a running back by San Francisco and believe it or not, posted 365 yards on 59 times rushing with a noteworthy eight touchdowns. With those kind of numbers, one can imagine he won’t have any trouble finding a team should it actually come to him leaving.

As for how much we can actually take from Samuel’s apparent cleaning of his Instagram account, perhaps one could point to the the case of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray who did something similar earlier in the off season. At the time many saw it as a sign that trouble was brewing and to an extent they were right. Murray has made no secret about the fact that he wants a new deal and seemingly intends to get it. His agent would later give a lengthy statement demanding that the Cardinals re-sign his client if they were truly intent on winning a Super Bowl. That of course brings us back to Samuel. Is Samuel trying a similar tactic in that he’s attempting to pressure his team into offering a new deal? Maybe, but if there is one thing that’s been learned during this off season so far, its that nothing is ever what it seems.
