The San Francisco 49ers blew out the Arizona Cardinals in an NFC West battle form Estadio Azteca on Monday Night. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns in the Niners 38-10 victory in Mexico.
Offense finally comes to life for San Fran
The question coming into the game and really all season was when will the San Fran offense ignite? For the first time this year we saw the Niners offense look as explosive as many expected them to be with so many weapons in their arsenal.
Colt McCoy got his second straight start for the Arizona Cardinals, as Kyler Murray continued to nurse his hamstring back to health. After leading the Cardinals to victory last week, McCoy started Monday night moving Arizona down the field setting up a Matt Prater field goal to put the first points of the game on the board.
Jimmy Garoppolo and the Niners took a quarter to get going, but once they turned it on the floodgates opened in Mexico City. San Fran opened the scoring early in the second quarter when Garoppolo hit Brandon Aiyuk on a 7 yard touchdown pass.
Kittle and Aiyuk catch two TDs each
The Niners didn’t look back from there. Their defense, as they so often is the case, came up with a game changing play midway through the first quarter when Jimmie Ward intercepted a McCoy pass that slipped through the hands of James Conner to set up the Niners second touchdown of the night.
Three plays later Jimmy G stepped up in the pocket on third down and hit George Kittle for a 39 yard catch and run to put the Niners up 14-3. Arizona would punch back at the end of the half when when Connor punched in a two yard TD run to cut into the San Francisco lead.

A balanced attack of Elijah Mitchell, Christian McCaffery and Deebo Samuel who busted the game wide open with a 39 yard touchdown on an end around to start the second half. Mitchell led the Niners with 59 yards on the ground and McCaffery had 106 yards of total offense on 14 touches.
Garropolo would throw two more TD passes, one more to Kittle and one more to Aiyuk to secure the blow out over their NFC West rivals as the NFL enjoyed another fantastic international event with a passionate fan base in Mexico City.

NFL in Mexico
Tonight’s Niners Cardinals game is just the fourth NFL contest ever played in Mexico. The series started in November of 2016 when the Raiders beat the Texans 27-20 at Estadio Azteca. The NFL hasn’t been back to below the boarder since 2019 when the Chiefs beat the Chargers 24-17.
Christian McCaffery was brought to the Bay before the trade deadline and since the moment he was named a Niner, has become a focal point of the offense. He is averaging 13 carries and almost 5 receptions a game for San Fran scoring two rushing TDs, one receiving TD and throwing for another.
McCoy to start again
Kyler Murray has not yet recovered from his lingering hamstring injury, and will sit tonight. Colt McCoy is no stranger to playing the relief role for the Cardinals. He did so for three games last year and went 2-1, throwing for 740 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. Tonight he gets the start against one of the toughest defenses in the league.
Arizona is in the building
Arizona started last year 7-0 and collapsed in the second half of the season. The first half of this year didn’t go to plan, but the Cardinals are still in sight of Wild Card positioning. J.J. Watt and Isaiah Simmons know these divisional matchups are going to be key when it comes to staying in the NFC West and the Wild Card race.
Los Niners estan en Estadio Azteca
When will this Niners team give a performance that makes us believe they can contend for the Super Bowl? Their defense is one of the top units in the league, but the offense has been unreliable for much of the season. They have the weapons to be an explosive team but Jimmy G and the rest of the gang have yet to click. Will tonight be the night that the Niners send a message to the rest of the league?
Arizona last week
Kliff Kinsbury’s job was on the line last week against their NFC West rivals the Los Angeles Rams. Kyler Murray missed the game with an injured hamstring and the Arizona back up Colt McCoy was under center in Week 10. McCoy threw for 238 yards and a touchdown while James Connor punched in two TDs on the ground as the Cardinals inched closer to the playoff picture.
Playoff picture coming into Monday Night
At the moment both of these teams are on the outside of the postseason picture. The Cardinals can draw even with the Niners at five wins each with a victory tonight while the Niners have a chance to draww level with the Seahawks with a win tonight

San Fran last week
The Niners moved to .500 on the season after a crucial primetime win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Elijah Mitchell had 89 of the Niners 157 yards on the ground as San Fran scored the final 12 points of the game.
We are live from Mexico
Hello everyone and welcome to Estadio Azteca where the Cardinals seem to be miles behind the Niners after the first ten weeks of the season, but if Arizona can get a win tonight in Mexico they will be neck and neck with San Fran and sitting right behind the Seahawks for first place in the NFC South. Mexico prepares for their biggest NFL night in their short international series history.
