Super Bowl LVIII, won by the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, had to be stopped after the Halftime Show after two shirtless pitch invaders, who didn’t appear to have any particular motive, decided they wanted to take the limelight away from Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co for just a few moments.

About halfway through the third quarter, two men entered the field of play from the stands but were quickly taken down by security and escorted out of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Mahomes had just completed a pass to Mecole Hardman, with the play allowed to stand by match officials despite the presence of the intruders on the opposite side of the field.

The punishment likely to come the Super Bowl streakers’ way

Streakers at the Super Bowl aren’t anything new, despite the vast amount of security in place at the NFL’s showpiece game. Most recently, in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ win over the Chiefs in 2021, one individual raced across the field in a pink leotard and flashed his bottom, which also led to a fast ejection.

On the occasion, Yuri Andrade was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a year of probation. We can assume the two 2024 offenders will be handed similarly severe punishments.

Following the interruption, the Chiefs went on to win their third Super Bowl in five years and their second in a row following their victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Phoenix last year. Quarterback Mahomes was named MVP in the championship game for a third time.
