Super Bowl LVII: preview

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are through to their fifth Super Bowl in the franchise’s history - and their third in the last four years. That’s to say, the Chiefs are without doubt one of the best in the business today. From their first title in 1969, all the way to their last in 2019, the Chiefs now led by MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes, are just one away from Super Bowl glory.

Indeed, having arrived at this point courtesy of a 23-20 victory of the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, it would take a brave man to bet against them, or maybe an Eagles fan. To be clear, Kansas City leads the league in passing yards, total yards and points scored. Winners of the Super Bowl in 1969 and 2019, the Chiefs set up the chance to claim their third title by beating the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

Philadelphia Eagles

On the other side of the divide, we’ve got the Philadelphia Eagles who secured their fourth Super Bowl appearance by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. The Eagles may be up against the best offense in the league, but there is no doubt that they boast the best defense. For the season, the Eagles have registered a record 78 sacks, just four shy of the record for the most sacks in a single season, set by the Chicago Bears in 1984. Indeed, while they may be clear underdogs, there’s definitely a lot of love for the Eagles as seen in the sad, but smile inducing message below, from the late and great Kobe Bryant.

To get to the big game, The Eagles dismantled the San Francisco 49ers in a 31-7 triumph at Lincoln Financial Field. To be fair to the Niners, they did have to endure an injury nightmare that saw both their available quarterbacks, Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson, sidelined through an elbow injury and concussion respectively. Incidentally, this year’s Super Bowl will be Philadelphia’s first since their only victory in the event, a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots back in the 2017 season.

Who is playing the halftime show at Super Bowl LVII?

In September, it was announced that nine-time Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is to perform in the half-time show at State Farm Stadium.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage,” NFL’s head of music, Seth Dudowsky, said. “Rihanna is a once in a generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career.”
