The historic TD record Patrick Mahomes broke in the game against the Bills
Mahomes set a new standard for Chiefs quarterbacks in the playoffs with another memorable performance against Buffalo.

Patrick Mahomes has a knack for rewriting record books, and Sunday night’s AFC Championship clash with the Buffalo Bills was no exception. Kansas City’s star quarterback delivered his usual mix of brilliance and grit, making sure fans in Arrowhead – and across the country – had plenty to talk about.
But this wasn’t just another Mahomes highlights reel, and one of the night’s more personal headlines came when he took matters into his own hands – quite literally – on the ground.
With just under two minutes left in the second quarter, Mahomes punched in a one-yard touchdown run, extending Kansas City’s lead to 21-10. That play tied him with former Chiefs running back Damien Williams for the most postseason rushing touchdowns in franchise history. But, as is often the case with Mahomes, he wasn’t content with just sharing the spotlight.

Mahomes’ record-breaking moment
Fast-forward to the fourth quarter. Kansas City clung to a narrow lead when Mahomes decided to keep the ball again, this time bolting 10 yards into the end zone. It was his second rushing touchdown of the night, and it came at the 10:14 mark, providing a much-needed cushion in what would become a dramatic 32-29 victory.
More importantly, that touchdown was Mahomes’ seventh career postseason rushing score, breaking Williams’ record and making Mahomes the franchise leader in playoff rushing touchdowns.
The Chiefs’ official social media team wasted no time confirming the milestone, posting: “QB Patrick Mahomes with his 2nd rushing TD of the game. He now owns 7 career postseason rushing TDs, the Chiefs franchise record for playoff rushing scores.”

How does Mahomes compare historically?
Mahomes’ newfound rushing record is just one chapter in his already storied career. Since taking over as Kansas City’s starter in 2018, Mahomes has led the team to every AFC Championship game, four Super Bowls, and three titles. Even Tom Brady didn’t get off to a start like that, and Mahomes is only 29.
The comparisons to Brady are inevitable, but Mahomes is building his legacy on his own terms. If Kansas City manages to secure an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat this season, Mahomes will have achieved something no quarterback, or team, has done in NFL history.

Chiefs’ pursuit of history looms large
With the Eagles waiting in Super Bowl LIX, the Chiefs sit on the edge of football immortality. Oddsmakers have Kansas City as a slight favorite, and Mahomes will once again be in the spotlight.
But even if the Chiefs fall short in New Orleans, Mahomes’ latest milestone cements his status as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Breaking a rushing touchdown record while being known for his arm? That’s peak Patrick Mahomes. And, if history is any guide, this won’t be the last record he shatters.
