This is the record that Shedeur Sanders wants to break in his first start with the Cleveland Browns
Sanders is set to make the first start of his NFL career this weekend, when the Browns visit the Raiders in Week 12.
Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will have to break a Cleveland Browns hoodoo if he is to celebrate his first NFL start with victory this weekend.
No QB in a Browns uniform has ever been on the winning side in his maiden career regular-season start. Per Barstool Sports, Cleveland’s NFL debutants have a 0-17 all-time record when starting under center for the first time.
“I’ll be excited”
Sanders, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is to come in for Dillon Gabriel in Sunday’s Week 12 clash with the Las Vegas Raiders. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the news in a press conference this midweek.
Sanders’ elevation to a starting role comes after Gabriel, also a rookie, suffered a concussion during last Sunday’s Week 11 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. “Dillon is still in the concussion protocol,” Stefanski told reporters on Wednesday.
Sanders replaced Gabriel in the second half of the 23-16 loss to the Ravens, throwing four-from-16 for 47 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
Looking ahead to his first start, the 23-year-old said on Wednesday: “It’ll be definitely exciting. We’re going out there with a purpose, going out there mentally ready, no distractions, no anything, and I’ll be excited.”
Browns vs Raiders: when, where, how to watch?
In Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season, the Browns visit the Raiders on Sunday, November 23, with kick-off at Allegiant Stadium scheduled for 4:05 p.m.ET/1:05 p.m. PT.
In the U.S., the Cleveland vs Las Vegas game will air nationally on CBS. Your streaming options include fubo, which offers new users a free trial.
Currently on a three-game losing streak, the Browns head to Nevada with a 2-8 record, leaving them well out of contention to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2023. So far in 2025, Cleveland has lost all five of its road games.
