Three more names added to 49ers’ long injury list
The San Francisco 49ers have had a mixed start to the 2025 NFL season, not helped by a string of injuries to key players.
The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Los Angeles Rams in this week’s Thursday Night Football but will be without a number of key players.
On Wednesday the 49ers confirmed that quarterback Brock Purdy is out for the game, having suffered a toe injury earlier in the season. He missed the Week 2 and Week 3 games against the Saints and the Cardinals, but was back for the Week 4 loss against the Jaguars.
“If I can play this game, I want to play,” Purdy told ESPN on Tuesday. “Obviously, I want to get right and get healthy and everything, but we need to win this game against the Rams. So that’s how I’m looking at it.”
San Francisco have also suffered injuries to wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings in recent days. They join Jordan Watkins, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle on a stacked injury list for the 49ers.
San Francisco have had a roller-coaster start to the 2025 season, marked by impressive flashes and troubling injury setbacks. They opened with a gritty 17–13 win over Seattle and followed with a clutch road victory in New Orleans, but looked exposed in their home defeat to Jacksonville.
Purdy has battled through that turf toe injury but backup Mac Jones stepped in and delivered two wins, throwing for 563 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.
If this team can stay healthy and sharpen execution, especially in road games, the 49ers still have the talent to contend in the stacked NFC. But as Prudy continues to battle with a toe injury the margin for error is shrinking fast for San Francisco.
