Defensive tackle Zacch Pickens has been ruled out of the Chicago Bears’ 2024 NFL opener on Sunday, as the Illinois franchise hosts the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 of the regular season.

Why isn’t Pickens playing against Titans?

Pickens is dealing with a groin injury and is “not ready” for this weekend’s clash at Soldier Field, says Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. “He’s still working through some of the stuff there,” Eberflus said on Friday, per ChicagoBears.com’s Larry Mayer.

The Bears, whose ranks were bolstered in the off-season by No. 1 Draft pick Caleb Williams, have listed wide receiver Keenan Allen (heel), defensive end Montez Sweat (toe) and defensive end DeMarcus Walker (groin) as questionable.

Who is injured for the Titans?

Meanwhile, the Titans have ruled out safety Jamal Adams (hip) and linebacker Otis Reese IV (concussion). Wide receiver Deandre Hopkins (knee) and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie (calf) are both questionable for Sunday.

Can Titans and Bears end postseason absence?

Under new head coach Brian Callahan, the Titans are aiming to return to the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2021, having finished with the 14th-best record in the AFC conference last season.

Chicago are also bidding to make it back to the postseason, with their last playoff appearance coming back in 2020. The Bears are heading into their third season under Eberflus, who led them to the 11th-best record in the NFC conference in 2023.
