Despite his retirement, Tom Brady continues to be a topic of discussion. Who could have imagined, eh?

While at the beginning of the week, there was speculation about the legendary quarterback of the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers potentially making a comeback to replace the severely injured Aaron Rodgers with an offer from the New York Jets, it seems that Brady’s plans do not involve returning to the field. Earlier this year, just when his retirement was announced, it came to light that the Californian had been in negotiations to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. But, after receiving an offer from the owner and his friend, Mark Davis, it appears that the negotiations have now stalled.

What’s the situation with Brady and the Raiders?

According to reports from various sources in the American media, the sale of this minority stake has not yet been finalised. Some insiders suggest that a vote to decide Brady’s inclusion in the ownership of the Raiders could take place in the coming weeks, prior to the October Fall League Meeting. However, several sources indicate that the delay in this vote is due to Brady’s financing of the deal, as well as the need for the franchise’s board to share all the information regarding a potential purchase. At present, there is no guarantee that the acquisition process will conclude in October, which would lead to a final meeting at the Winter League Meeting where Brady would definitively close the process of entering the NFL ownership.

According to the official NFL portal, “any limited partner of an NFL team, regardless of the size of the ownership stake they intend to purchase, must be approved by a three-fourths majority vote of the owners.” This vote has not yet occurred regarding Brady’s pending purchase of the Raiders. The transaction is still under review in accordance with the normal process for approving new ownership.

Why Raiders ownership ends Brady the QB

If Brady ultimately succeeds in becoming a part of the Las Vegas Raiders ownership, the NFL would close the door on any potential return of its legendary quarterback. The league is clear in this regard.

According to the competition’s recently updated bylaws, purchasing an ownership stake in an NFL franchise, regardless of its size, would prevent the owner from playing for another team in the league.
