Update:

Travis Kelce is still digesting Sunday’s Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles and admits that talking about the Chiefs disappointment at missing out on a ‘three-peat’ has been tough.

During his first interviews since Sunday’s loss, the Chiefs tight end said that it is inevitable that there will be changes to the roster during the offseason and that his own future could be on the line as he enters the final year of his contract.

“I’ve already congratulated the Eagles, it was hard going into the Exit interviews today - obviously, the last time I’ll see probably a lot of those guys. As it’ll be a bit of turnover this year with the contract situations and everything,” he told the New Heights podcast which he runs with his brother Jason.

How long has Travis Kelce left to run on his contract?

The 35-year-old is halfway through a two-year extension which he signed last year, making him the highest-paid TE in the league. This year, he will earn a base salary of $4.5 million while carrying a cap hit of $19,801,667 and a dead cap value of $2,551,667.

The Chiefs meanwhile have already started the process of clearing out the roster with seven players who were part of the Chiefs practice squad last season: Swayze Bozeman, Cole Christiansen, Anthony Firsker, Keontay Ingram, Nic Jones, Steven Nelson and Montrell Washington now free agents.

Will Travis Kelce continue with the Chiefs in 2025?

The Super Bowl defeat has naturally led to speculation over Kelce’s own future in the NFL. “I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m kicking every can I can down the road,” he explained.

“I’m not making any crazy decisions. Right now the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing”.

For the last six campaigns, Kelce has played 19-20 games per season and confesses that it is starting to take its toll. “The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three games than everybody else in the entire league,‘ he told the New Heights podcast.

That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself. That process can be grueling, it can weigh on you.

“It can make you better, it can drive you crazy at the same time, and right now it’s one of those things where it was kind of driving me crazy this year. I’m gonna take some time to figure it out,’ he continued. ”And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back that it’s gonna be a wholehearted decision and I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them".
