Travis Kelce’s response about Trump attending Super Bowl LIX that has Swifties up in arms
Donald Trump will be the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl when he watches the Chiefs and Eagles at Caesars Superdome on Sunday.

Pop sensation Taylor Swift was very quiet about her political beliefs for much of her career. That changed in 2018, when she publicly declared her opposition to Donald Trump. Since then, she’s made it abundantly clear that her stance has not changed.
Swift has called on her fans to vote against Trump and expressed regret for not having done more to prevent his presidency in 2016. She criticizes his far right policies and said that he was “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” when he condemned Black Lives Matter protests.
Oddly, Trump has gone back and forth on his opinions of Swift, calling her “unusually beautiful" in the summer of 2024 before writing “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on his Truth Social platform just three months later. The president has said plenty of negative things about Swift at this point, but her boyfriend still thinks it’s “awesome” that Trump will attend the Super Bowl to watch him play.
Kelce calls Trump’s Super Bowl presence “an honor”
Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift’s boyfriend - or as some may know him better, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs - was asked how he felt about Trump attending Super Bowl LIX. Kelce and the Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in New Orleans, and it was announced on Tuesday that Trump would be in attendance.
“That’s awesome, it’s a great honor no matter who the president is.”

“That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” Kelce said. “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there - it’s the best country in the world - and that’s pretty cool.”
Obviously, the Swifties were not happy about this. Some defended Kelce, saying that he was simply remaining diplomatic, but not all were so easily convinced. To remain professional is one thing, but to call Trump’s presence an honor is another. This is the man who openly criticized the woman who travels the world to be at his games and support him.
“Ugh, this is such a disappointing answer! Especially after how Trump has treated his girlfriend in the past...” one person wrote on TikTok.
Another wrote, “A great honor?? Who is he kidding? He missed a chance to speak out for everyone being harmed by this administration 😔."
First, Travis should’ve answered like Jalen Hurts who said, “The president can do what he wants.” That shows respect towards the POTUS with political neutrality.

Second, his answer shows he doesn’t care about how Trump attacked Taylor. But he’s a narcissist so I’m not surprised. https://t.co/HtsJu9f0aS
Jalen Hurts' antithetical response about Trump
The Eagles, the Chiefs' opponent, too have a history with Trump. When they won the Super Bowl in 2018, several players stated that they refused to meet the president, as is tradition for the Super Bowl winners. This came at a time when Trump condemned Black Lives Matter protests - nearly all the Black players on the team were amongst those who declined. Trump then revoked the invitation completely.
Eagles’ current quarterback Jalen Hurts was asked about his thoughts on Trump attending the Super Bowl this weekend and his response was a little different than Kelce’s. When asked his thoughts, Hurts simply said, "He’s welcome to do whatever he wants.” And when asked if there was added pressure with his attending, he said even more simply, “No, ma’am.”

If the Eagles win, it will be interesting to see if they go to the White House to meet Trump this time. Trump did not exactly say which team he is supporting, but he made it pretty clear with this comment:
“I don’t want to say but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner.”
