Were the Baltimore Ravens aware Zay Flowers was allegedly involved in an assault before he played in AFC Championship Game?

The off-field discipline of NFL players is of constant concern. It appears that the latest to demonstrate that is the Baltimore Ravens’ pass catcher.

The Baltimore Ravens were one win away from a trip to the Super Bowl and blew it. Yet, it may be that one of the players who was on the field that day, shouldn’t have been due to allegations against him and the disciplinary actions that should be taken against a player in such a situation. It’s not a good look.

Ravens’ Zay Flowers under investigation for domestic assault

According to reports this week, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers is currently under investigation for an alleged domestic assault. As per reports, Baltimore County Police confirmed that it had been made aware of an alleged assault in the Owings Mills, Maryland, area on January 21st, the day after the Ravens’ divisional round win against the Houston Texans. It should be said that a spokesman told for the police informed the media that additional details about the situation would not be released due to the pending nature of the matter.

It is also understood that the investigation also involves the participation of a police department in Acton, Massachusetts, which also confirmed its awareness of the allegations. For context, the 23-year-old Florida native played college football at Boston College, a university that is located approximately 25 miles from Acton.

Did the Ravens make a mistake with Zay Flowers?

When it comes to allegations of domestic violence, the Baltimore Ravens are one team in the NFL that has taken a zero-tolerance stance to a problem that is unfortunately all too common in the NFL. Indeed, since former Ravens star and prolific running back, Ray Rice was charged with assaulting his then-fiancee in 2014, that has been the team’s position. With that said, Flowers’ situation could pose a bigger problem for the Ravens in that he played in the AFC Championship Game which the Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. That game occurred six days after the alleged assault, which is to say that if the franchise was aware of Flowers’ situation beforehand, well, you get the idea. As for what the team has said so far, nothing more than what you would expect: “We are aware of the report regarding Zay Flowers. We take these matters seriously and will have no further comment at this time,” the team’s statement read. As always, watch this space.
