The life-threatening injury to Damar Hamlin during a Monday night game in Cincinnati has shaken the NFL and echoed across the world of sports.

Countless figures, players, and individuals have been vocal about the Hamlin situation and have shown tremendous support, including creating a GoFundMe account that raised $6 million.

Even President Joe Biden has reached out to Hamlin’s parents and spoken at length with them.

The second-year Bills safety, who suffered a cardiac arrest during Buffalo’s Week 17 game, remains hospitalized and in critical condition but has shown " remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours,” according to the Bills.

Most recently, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who often speaks very few words that say a lot, had plenty to say regarding the incident:

Football is a very great and competitive game,” said Belichick. “Unfortunately injuries like this can and do happen from time to time. It’s very unfortunate. … Life’s bigger than this game. It’s just one of these humbling moments for all of us.”

The 70-year-old even spoke about the tragic incident involving former Detroit Lions linebacker Reggie Brown, who suffered a career-ending spinal cord contusion during a game against the New York Jets in 1997.

Brown was unable to breathe after the matchup that nearly killed him, and was temporarily paralyzed. Belichick witnessed the incident as he was on the field as the New York Jets coach at the time.

“Not that I have all of the answers because I certainly don’t, but I was there and experienced that,” said Belichick. “I think I have some sense of what the players and teams, coaches, went through on Monday night. I guess that’s something that you just never forget.”

Fortunately, there has been positive news regarding Hamlin’s health with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noting that he “opened his eyes.”
