What did Aaron Rodgers say about his role in the Packers’ “Thursday Night Football” loss to the Titans?

Though the Titans and their running back put on a show, it was clear that the Packers’ quarterback was not having his best game and they were made to pay for that.

Given the kind of critique that’s been aimed at Green Bay’s star in recent times, a loss was the last thing both he and the team needed. With that said, the defending MVP is owning it.

Aaron Rodgers takes blame for Titans loss

If there was one thing that was very clear during the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night, it was that the Packers simply didn’t have an answer for what they faced. With an overall average of 4.6 yards per play whether rushing or passing, the Packers weren’t great and that’s before mentioning the fact that the Titans’ Derrick Herny most definitely was. To be honest, Tennessee’s running back was nothing short of legendary on the night. Yet, that’s a digression. Following the loss, Green Bay’s star signal caller weighed in on what went wrong and surprisingly, he lay a lot of blame at his own feet.

“I couldn’t tell you, point to one thing,” Rodgers said. “I’m not going to make excuses about my thumb, it’s been the same since New York. I don’t know. I gotta go back and look at it. It felt like fundamentally I was in a good spot. I just didn’t have the same type of consistent grip and ball coming out the same way. I threw a lot of kinda wobblers tonight. There was some wind. I just missed a few throws I shoulda had.”

What went wrong for Aaron Rodgers & the Packers?

To be clear, Rodgers wasn’t lying. From ‘wobblers’ as he called them, to passes that he missed altogether, the Packers’ star was not at his best. Indeed, there were two moments in particular which drew attention, when he failed to find wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Allen Lazard on third-down crossing routes on back-to-back drives and both were wide open at the time. What resulted, was the Packers having to punt on one play and missing a fourth-down opportunity on the other. Needless to say, the Titans were more than happy to capitalize on the Packers’ failure to cut their lead.

With that, Rodgers and the Packers now sit on a record of 4-7 with six games remaining in the regular season. To be clear, it’s going to take some doing at this point if they are to see the postseason. That’s not to say it’s impossible, but Rodgers admitted that everyone, including he himself, wil have to step up.”We gotta play up to our potential,” Rodgers said. “If we play up to our potential, we can win our last six games. I’m confident of that. Obviously, I gotta play up to my potential; tonight wasn’t it.”
