COWBOYS

What did Jerry Jones say to Cowboys fans who blame him for problems?

The Cowboys are in another slump and after years of the same problems over and over, fans blame owner Jerry Jones. His response, however, was unexpected.

The Dallas Cowboys are facing a lot of heat after their second straight home loss in Week 3. They were blown out 44-19 by the Saints in Week 2 and lost 28-25 to the Ravens, who held a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Cowboys fans are tired. We are rapidly approaching the 30-year anniversary of the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl. And the postseason woes since 1996 are ongoing. Owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones is the one common component in the last 28 years of this team’s lack of success, and many put the blame on him for their current and continuous failures.

Jerry Jones responds to Cowboys fans’ criticism

This offseason was again filled with questionable decisions from the front office. The Cowboys made very few moves in free agency, chose to bring back their old washed up running back, kept head coach Mike McCarthy after the wild (Card) loss to the Packers last postseason, and took ages to get deals done with the two best players on the team.

Again, who’s in charge of these kinds of decisions? Well, that would be Jerry Jones.

For years now, Jones has been called on to step down as the GM and get someone new and fresh to handle those duties. But just one month ago, Jones responded to that call with impatient profanity. He explained that he’s the only person who can do the job, and that the only way he’s even giving it to his own children (who are next in line for it) is if he “gets hit by a car”.

Here’s exactly what he said:

“I’ve done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that f***, if anybody can figure out how to get this s*** done, I can figure out how to get it done. I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my a** a bunch, a bunch. And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their a**. So hell no, there’s nobody that could f***ing come in here and do all the contracts…and be a GM any better than I can.

“I f***ing have had hundreds of [bad days],” Jones went on. “I’m emotional about it sometimes. Well, running this thing, that’s who I want to make the last call. Now, when I can’t f***ing think, when I’m old and I can’t even do it… but I’m a long way from not being able to do it too. The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right. And they’re gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you’re going to pay for it.”

So when the fans put the blame on Jerry for the Cowboys’ recent upsets, his humble response was more than a little surprising. Here’s what he said about that:

“That’s very fair. How could you think otherwise? …I accept that completely,” Jones said on Shan & RJ on Audacy’s 105.3 The Fan.

Jones taking responsibility is not something we see very often...if ever. Typically it’s that first type of response - defensive and buckling down on his decisions. Then again, he could come back next week and completely contradict himself. Let’s see what happens when the Cowboys face the New York Giants on the road this Thursday night.
