The Dallas Cowboys continue to be one of the best-supported teams in the country, regardless of their record and despite the lack of a championship each season. They have extended their sell-out streak to more than 20 years. The last time they failed to sell all available tickets for a game was in 2002.

That incredible popularity is the how they earned their nickname, ‘America’s Team’. In 1978 Bob Ryan, now the editor-in-chief of NFL Films, coined the moniker while preparing their season highlight reel.

Ryan has since explained: “I saw all these fans in away stadiums. Hey, they’re the most popular team in the country. How can I use that? Why don’t we call them America’s Team?”

For the first game of the 1979 season, CBS commentator Pat Summerall introduced them as ‘America’s Team’ and they have been known as such ever since.

Why do the Dallas Cowboys have a blue star logo?

There are few sporting logos can compete with the iconic status of the Dallas Cowboys’ blue star. The simple five-point star is found on players’ jerseys and on the helmets, but where does it come from?

Dallas is located in Texas, also known as ‘The Lone Star State’, so it was a natural choice when deciding how best to represent the region.

It was initially a solid blue star, but the white line and blue border were added in 1964. For the past 59 years, the Dallas Cowboy’s blue star logo has remained unchanged.

Ever since their first NFL season in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys have worn uniforms based on the main colors of white and blue.
