There are just 2 days left until the 2024 NFL Draft takes place (April 25-27), and it is an edition where Caleb Williams is the heavy favourite to be chosen in the number 1 position. This young quarterback looks set to be a big star in the league in the short term thanks to his enormous potential that he shows every time he steps onto the field.

If we stick with star NFL quarterbacks, in stark contrast to a rookie like Williams we find Aaron Rodgers. At 40-years-old, the leading figure of the New York Jets is probably the most experienced veteran head in the competition. However, just a few years ago, Rodgers was indeed a rookie himself.

In what draft position was Rodgers selected?

Although today, after almost two decades of career in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers has become a true legend of the sport, his arrival in the professional game did not suggest a career that would go in the way that it did.

Rodgers was the twenty-fourth pick in the 2005 draft, which placed him at the bottom of the first round, with the Green Bay Packers the team that acquired the quarterback’s services. Years later, hindsight showed him to be a fantastic pick, despite the fact that the event shone with other important names such as Alex Smith or Braylon Edwards at the forefront of the media attention.

When is the NFL Draft?

The NFL 2024 Draft is scheduled for April 25-27, with each day starting at a specific (ET) time.

  • Thursday, April 25: Round 1 (8 p.m.)
  • Friday, April 26: Rounds 2-3 (7 p.m.)
  • Saturday, April 27: Rounds 4-7 (12 p.m.)

What university did he play for?

Originally from the municipality of Chico, in the state of California, Rogers spent his entire formative years very close to his home. He took his first steps in American football at Pleasant Valley High School in his hometown. From there, he went to university as a top local talent, but with certain doubts around him at the state level.

Rodgers, in his first year of college, tried to find a scholarship to play at Florida State, but was rejected. The University of Illinois did notice him, but on that occasion it was the player who declined the offer. Finally, he would end up at a minor university in the state of California, Butte College, just 15 kilometres from his home.

After a solid year in his first university adventure, Rodgers was recruited to become the starting quarterback for the Golden Bears of the University of California, a top team that helped him mould his game until the time of the 2005 draft when he became a key member of the Green Bay Packers.
