What happened between Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen on the sidelines against the Bengals?
The Buffalo Bills were eyeing Super Bowl glory this year, and that makes an early exit even harder to take for some of their stars.
As any Fantasy Football manager who got Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen in the draft can tell you, what a points-making superstar he is. Or, at least, what a points-making superstar he was. Whether throwing them in to his teammates’ open arms, or running them in himself, Allen’s calls and execution across much of the regular season had dreams of some shiny finger adornments becoming ever clearer. But then there was the injury, and cracks started to appear.
Allen given mouthful from angry Diggs
The Divisional game against third-seeded Cincinnati Bengals did not go to plan. Entering the fourth quarter the Bills were trialling 24-10, but hopes were still alive. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, for one, knew that Allen had the plays in his locker to claw back those two scores. But it never happened, the score being extended to 27-10.
For his part, Diggs caught four passes for 35 yards on a game-high 10 targets. That final period saw only two, and his frustration poured out on the sidelines, and seemed directed square at his QB.
After the game, a clearly dejected Allen took questions from the press. He knocked back the suggestion that the snowy conditions could have been a factor.
Specifically on Diggs, Allen said: “He’s a fiery competitor. He wants the ball. Whatever it was that we couldn’t get him the ball tonight we’re going to have to learn from.”
Expect Allen to be back strong next season. As one armchair manager, I’ll be looking to repeat his inclusion in my FF team.
