What has the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts said about his spat with teammate AJ Brown?

Though they have got off to a good start where their record is concerned, it would be a mistake to think that the Eagles are firing on all cylinders. Could it be that’s why there is apparently tension between some members of the team?

On Thursday night, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings 34-28 to claim their second consecutive victory of the season, but it’s got to be said that it wasn’t exactly their best night. While the team’s ground game was worthy of their standards, their passing game wasn’t. Where quarterback Jalen Hurts was concerned, the former Oklahoma product threw for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Of course, it wasn’t just Hurts that was at fault. There was also wide receiver AJ Brown who wasn’t nearly as impactful on the night as one would expect for a player of his stature. To that end, things appeared to boil over between the two of them during a moment on the sidelines. So much so that head coach Nick Sirianni had to intervene.

Speaking post-game about the incident, Hurts When speaking about the situation afterward, Hurts downplayed what happened between him and Brown as well as the idea that there might be anything lingering between them. Indeed, Hurts attributed the scenario to Brown simply wanting to help the team win. “Yeah, I think everybody wants to make plays, and everybody wants to contribute,” Hurts said. “I have no worry about him. He is a great player, great teammate, great friend. We’ll do anything and everything with winning in mind.” Regarding Brown’s numbers on the night, the pass catcher caught four passes to the tune of 29 yards and no touchdowns, while fellow wideout Devnota Smith finished with four receptions on 131 yards for one touchdown.

Jason Kelce thinks the friction is a good thing

It’s interesting to note that Philadelphia’s star center Jason Kelce also weighed in on the exchange between Brown and Hurts, saying it was normal for players to express emotions on the sidelines, and even more so when a game isn’t going as smoothly as the team would like it. With that in mind, Kelce offered a different take, as he explained that such spats are much better than silence. “Everybody’s going to get frustrated,” Kelce said. “I mean, I’ve been frustrated on the sideline. I was frustrated last week. I think that you want guys talking. I think actually, it’s worse when guys aren’t talking. So the fact that they were having an exchange at all is a positive in my mind.” Incidentally, Brown did not give a comment to the media following the game.

As for the Eagles as a whole, they are now as mentioned before sitting on a record of 2-0, however, it would be accurate to say that the team’s level of play has been way below that which took them all the way to the Super Bowl last season. Week 1′s win over the New England Patriots was tight, and most definitely gave insight into the Eagles’ weaknesses. Consider for a moment that Hurts himself was sacked on three occasions. With that said, the record so far still speaks for itself. Up next Hurts and Co. will be a Monday Night Football date with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 of the 2023-24 NFL season.
