Jimmy Garoppolo will continue his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams after an unproductive year with the Las Vegas Raiders, which culminated in a two-game suspension for violating the league’s policies on performance-enhancing substances. The contract with the Rams is for one year, but the financial details of the agreement had not been disclosed... until now.
According to the NFL Network report, Garoppolo’s base salary will be $4.5 million, but could reach $12 million if certain incentives are met. With this contract, the Rams have insurance in case veteran Matthew Stafford suffers a serious injury in the upcoming NFL season.
How much money has Garoppolo made in NFL contracts?
In his 10 seasons as a professional, Garoppolo has earned $148 million, the majority of which he accrued with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Spotrac. His rookie contract, signed after being drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 Draft, was for four years and valued at $3.483 million.
From that sum, the AFC East team paid him $3.07 million, as they traded him to San Francisco in the final year. The 49ers assumed the remainder of his rookie contract and in February 2018 agreed to a five-year extension worth $137.5 million. Of that total, San Francisco only disbursed $122.2 million due to restructurings and an extension to mitigate the impact on the salary cap. Finally, in 2023, the Raiders only paid him $23.5 million out of the $72.75 million he had agreed upon for three seasons.
