The Super Bowl-winning quarterback nobody wants? Contract demands revealed
While Aaron Rodgers could be on his way to the Pittsburgh Steelers, another veteran QB is unsure what his future holds.

There may not be any on-field action to speak of, but there is still plenty going on in the world of NFL as franchises look to shape their rosters ahead of the 2025 season.
There has been much speculation about Aaron Rodgers, who looks to be on the verge of joining a new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, following his release from the New York Jets. Another veteran Super Bowl-winning quarterback, however, is still waiting to have his future resolved.
Steelers pick Rodgers over Wilson?
Rodgers' seemingly imminent arrival in Pittsburgh will end Russell Wilson’s time with the Steelers, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The 10-time Pro Bowl signed a one-year contract in the Steel City in 2024 and had previously been tipped to agree an extension, which now appears unlikely.
Speaking on The Rich Eissen Show, Pelissero said, “Nothing shocks me, but I would be very surprised if Russell Wilson under any circumstances is back in Pittsburgh. They’re now making it clear that they would like to sign Aaron Rodgers over Russell Wilson. He is no better and maybe even lower than their third choice.”
Wilson pipped Justin Fields to the starting quarterback position ahead of last season, but an injury caused him to miss the first five regular-season games. The 36-year-old helped the Steelers to a 10-3 record midway through the campaign but they finished with four straight losses and were comfortably beaten in the Wild Card round by the Baltimore Ravens.
Those five defeats appear to have caused the Steelers to rethink their strategy, with Wilson one potential casualty.

Wilson “too expensive” for NFL team
The Super Bowl XLVIII winner has also been linked with the Cleveland Browns but Tony Grossi, a Browns beat writer, claims Wilson’s salary demands would block that move.
“I think the Browns feel that Russell Wilson is a little too expensive for their tastes right now. He’s reportedly asking for $20-$30 million,” Grossi claimed on ESPN Cleveland.
The New York Giants may be Wilson’s best bet, although they have already snapped up one experienced QB in the shape of Jameis Winston. Although they are reportedly open to signing another quarterback, is another veteran on the cards?
There’s a long way to go until the next NFL season kicks off in September, although Wilson, like everyone else, will hope to have his future tied up before too much longer.
