Where do the Cincinnati Bengals stand now that RB Joe Mixon has been found not guilty?
The Bengals’ RB has seen a turbulent past few months, but that seems to be behind him now after a favorable verdict. His team is understandably happy.
It would appear that both player and team are happy with the outcome of a recent judgment in court. One can only hope that the Bengals’ player can get back to focusing on what he should which is the game of football.
Bengals’ Joe Mixon found not guilty
Just about a month ago, Joe Mixon took a pay cut in what was certainly an attempt to secure his spot on the roster of the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon had been at the center of a few less-than-ideal situations in which there was the threat of legal charges. Thankfully, it’s now come to pass that the 27-year-old will face none after reports confirmed that he’s been found not guilty of an aggravated menacing charge stemming from an alleged incident in downtown Cincinnati. As one can imagine, the franchise was understandably happy about the decision and released a statement to demonstrate as much.
“Since he joined the organization in 2017, Joe Mixon has been a valuable part of the Cincinnati Bengals,” the team statement said. “Joe has been a top-level running back with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and he has been an even better teammate enjoying real popularity among his peers. During the past seven years, Joe has been active with the community, and his constant smile and energy have made him a favorite among thousands of fans. The organization is pleased that this matter is now behind everyone, and we look forward to an exciting season with Joe being an important part of the football team.”
What did Joe Mixon do?
If you missed our previous reports about Mixon’s off-field exploits - there are a few - the Oklahoma product was accused of pointing a gun at a woman following a traffic dispute in February, the very next day after the Bengals played the Bills in the playoffs. At the time, a warrant was issued for Mixon’s arrest, and following a four-day trial that was held this week, the former Pro Bowler was found not guilty. Incidentally, Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, also weighed in on the situation after his client’s innocence was confirmed. “Knowing the facts, knowing Joe as a person and having tremendous faith in the legal system’s ability to get to the truth, we had no doubt of the eventual outcome,” Schaffer said. “This vindicates Joe as a person and that is what’s most important. Back to the business of football.”
Of course, as mentioned before this is simply one of a few unsavory situations which Mixon has been a part of in recent times. As recently as March, Mixon was reportedly present during a shooting that occurred at his home and involved both his sister and her partner. Indeed, he has since been named in a civil lawsuit for allegedly providing a weapon used in the shooting in his neighborhood. Additionally, it’s understood that he also recently reached a settlement over a misdemeanor assault charge during his college career in Oklahoma.
