Andrew Luck is one of the most shocking retirements of recent NFL history, but his life away from football after he gave up the game at age 29 is not what you would expect. The former All-Pro quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts had coffee with Zak Keefer from The Athletic and made us think about what has happened to him since he unexpectedly stepped away from the team back in August 2019.
Where is Andrew Luck nowadays?
As Keefer explained, Luck lives just a few minutes away from the Colts practice facility which was his workplace for so many years. Stepping away from the game did not mean leaving Indianapolis, as Luck had already established his life in the city, even if football was no longer going to be a part of it. Luck is seen more often just walking around town or grocery shopping than in football-related activities. He has become a private figure for whom retiring from the game meant not only not playing anymore, but also being away from the public eye for once.
Andrew Luck was the most hyped QB coming into the draft since Peyton Manning, precisely the player he ended up succeeding in Indianapolis when the former MVP moved to Denver for the final years of his career. It was supposed to be a seamless transition from one of the greatest quarterbacks in Manning to one who had the potential to be so in Luck. It was not to be, as Luck was an excellent QB and did lead Indianapolis to the playoffs during his shortened career, but his injuries and his lack of commitment to the game meant that this new Colts golden era would never be realized.
Luck never was your usual QB draft prospect, as his physical tools came with an intelligence that made him better on the field, but in that same way, sparked several interests away from it. This was known as early as his Stanford days, but he was too good a player to take it into account entering the 2012 draft. As expected, his conversation with Keefer was off the record, and he continues not to make any public appearance in the media since he retired. Andrew Luck is now 32, over ten years younger than Tom Brady, but his retirement happened three years ago and there is no reason to think he will ever come back, not even to say “hello” once or twice. Indianapolis Colts fans, even as they miss him, can only hope he is doing all right.
