SUPER BOWL LVII
Who is Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach and his wife Tammy?
We take a look back over the career of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who has turned the KC franchise into Super Bowl regulars and his wife Tammy.
Now in his 24th season as an NFL head coach, Kansas City Chiefs boss Andy Reid can join a select club of multiple Super Bowl champions this weekend. If the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium, the 64-year-old will become only the 14th man in league history to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy more than once as a head coach.
Tammy met Reid at Brigham Young University and they’ve been together ever since
Reid met his wife Tammy while he was a student-athlete at Brigham Young University. The couple maried in 1981 after Andy Reid converted to Mormonism. The pair have been together for over 40 years and have five children together. They have lived in different cities where Reid’s coaching career has taken them, such as Green Bay, Philadelphia and now, Kansas City.
Tammy grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and Arizona although she was born in New York in in 1959. She enrolled in Brigham Young University where she met Andy and the rest is history.
Steered Kansas City to Super Bowl glory in 2019 season
Reid, who has been in charge at Kansas City since January 2013, previously led the Chiefs to victory at Super Bowl LIV in 2019. At Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, the Missourians produced a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 and clinch the second Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
Under Reid, Kansas City have been virtually ever-present in the NFL playoffs - they’ve reached the postseason in nine out of his 10 campaigns at Arrowhead Stadium - and have become the dominant force in the AFC. Indeed, with Patrick Mahomes pulling the strings at quarterback, they have contested the AFC Championship Game in each of the last five seasons, winning it three times.
Chiefs appearing in yet another Super Bowl under Reid
After lifting the 2019 AFC title to set up their Super Bowl LIV triumph, Kansas City again won the conference championship 12 months later, to secure back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. However, they were runners-up to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 NFL title decider, losing 31-9 at Raymond James Stadium. Now, having beaten the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 AFC Championship Game at the end of January, Reid’s Chiefs are preparing for a third Super Bowl in the space of just four years.
Andy Reid: fact file
Reid goes up against former team at State Farm
Although he has been an NFL head coach for almost a quarter of a century, Reid has only been at the helm of one other franchise in the league: Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVII opponents on Sunday. Before moving to Missouri, Reid spent 14 years on the sidelines in Philadelphia, a stint that made him one of just 11 first-time NFL head coaches to spent 12 or more seasons with the same franchise.
Lasting from January 1999 to December 2012, his Eagles tenure yielded nine postseason appearances and one NFC title - but he was unable to steer the team to a Super Bowl championship. Having reached the showpiece event in 2004, Philadelphia were denied the NFL crown by the New England Patriots, going down 24-21 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Fifth-most wins by an NFL head coach
Named the AP Coach of the Year in 2002, Reid has now amassed a career haul of NFL wins that makes him one of the most successful head coaches in league history. His tally of 267 victories in NFL games puts him fifth on the all-time wins list, just three behind two-time Super Bowl champion Tom Landy. Among currently active head coaches, he is only outdone by the Patriots’ eight-time Super Bowl winner, Bill Belichick. Reid is likewise second to Belichick when it comes to playoff wins by a head coach, either past or present: the former has come out on top in 21 postseason games - one more than Landry - while the latter boasts 31 victories.
Before becoming a head coach, Reid also won Super Bowl XXXI during a seven-year spell as an assistant at the Green Bay Packers.
