Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to official reports from Wisconsin authorities.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the 46-year-old performed poorly during field sobriety tests after being stopped while driving southbound on Interstate 43 on Thursday.

Authorities said Romo was taken into custody, booked and later released in line with standard procedures for this type of offense. No further details have been released regarding any additional charges or penalties.

Romo is scheduled to appear in court on September 21, when the legal process will continue and a judge will determine the next steps in the case.

The incident occurred close to Romo’s hometown. The former quarterback attended high school in Burlington, Wisconsin, around 35 miles southwest of Milwaukee.

Since retiring from football, Romo has become one of the most recognizable voices in the NFL. He joined CBS Sports in 2017 as the network’s lead game analyst and quickly earned praise for his ability to predict plays before they unfolded.

Before moving into television, Romo spent his entire NFL playing career with the Dallas Cowboys from 2004 through 2016. During that span, he was selected to four Pro Bowls and established himself as one of the franchise’s most productive quarterbacks.

Romo remains the Cowboys’ all-time leader in touchdown passes with 248. He also held the franchise record for passing yards with 34,183 until Dak Prescott surpassed that mark last season.
