The 3-2 Buffalo Bills face the 2-3 New York Jets for Monday Night Football tonight at MetLife Stadium, but they’ll have to do so without starting running back James Cook after he suffered from a toe injury late in their game against the Houston Texans last week. It will be just his second game to miss in three seasons.

Filling in for Cook will be Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis. Frank Gore was elevated from the practice squad and will be available to play too.

Who is Ray Davis?

Running back Ray Davis was the Bills’ 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Davis started college at Temple in 2019 and had a fantastic freshman year, rushing for 936 yards and eight touchdowns and being named first-team Freshman All-American. In his second year, he ran for 323 yards in just four games before entering the transfer portal.

Davis transferred to Vanderbilt in 2021, where he rushed for 211 yards and a touchdown in his first three games. Unfortunately, his season ended there thanks to an injury. The next year, he earned fourth-team All-SEC honors with five 100-yard games, a total 1,042 yards, and five touchdowns.

In 2023, Davis transferred yet again, this time to play in Kentucky. He ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns in his debut with the Wildcats.
