Why aren’t the NY Giants playing in Week 11?

The New York Giants have endured a difficult 2024 NFL season so far and are on a run of five back-to-back defeats.

To say the New York Giants have endured a troubled start to the 2024 NFL season would be something of an understatement, but they are at least guaranteed to avoid a sixth consecutive defeat in Week 11.

Which NFL teams have a bye in Week 11?

The Giants are one of four teams to have a bye in Week 11, with the Arizona Cardinals, the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the other franchise sitting it out this weekend.

Although there are 16 teams in each conference, which means there could theoretically be eight games every week, each team is granted one bye week per season on its schedule. The time off is generally used to regroup, rest and reassess strategies, which the Giants are in need of more than most, you might argue.

The Giants’ poor 2024 season

Back-to-back opening losses against the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders appear to have set the tone for the season. After a brief flurry of two victories in three games (over the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks), Brian Daboll’s team have lost five in a row, suffering heavy defeats to the Cincinnati Bengals (7-17) and the Philadelphia Eagles (3-28) along the way.

Their 2-8 record (0-5 at home) leaves them in fourth place in NFC East and their hopes of reaching the playoffs are already realistically dead; even winning their remaining seven games may not be enough.

The Giants, who won the last of their four Super Bowls 2021, return to action on Sunday, November 24 when they face the Bucs at MetLife Stadium.
