Here’s the latest on Brock Purdy’s injury ahead of the game against the Giants.
Why isn’t Brock Purdy playing for the 49ers against the Giants in Week 9? San Francisco QB injury report
The tension is ramping up for the 49ers ahead of their Week 9 game against the New York Giants, as fans sweat over the fitness of star quarterback, Brock Purdy.
At present, the Giants are in last place in the NFC East with a 2-6 record, despite solid play by rooke QB Jaxson Dart.
However, the Giants will present an interesting challenge of their own at MetLife Stadium. The 49ers travel to New Jersey to try and improve their 5-3 record without Brock Purdy behind center, again.
Will Brock Purdy play in Week 9 against the Giants?
Unfortunately for 49ers fans, Purdy is not expected to start in Week 9 due to his toe injury. While he did show up for practice on Wednesday and Thursday, his participation was limited and it appears his recovery isn’t moving fast enough to be ready for this Sunday.
“He didn’t get all the starter reps this week. As soon as he had a chance to get through practice and stuff the first time, we let him get all those starter reps and it was great. Then there was a chance he could re-hurt it in the game and he did and he’s been out for the last month,” Coach Shanahan told reporters. “He got more reps this week, but we weren’t going to commit to all of that like we did last time. So I think it’s easing it back more than last time.”
In his place, veteran quarterback Mac Jones is slated to get the start. Jones has already stepped in before this season and has shown he can manage the offence, completing 149 of 226 pass attempts with eight TDs and 5 INTs.
Since Brock Purdy became the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, the team has experienced a notable improvement in their win-loss record. With Purdy in the side, the 49ers have achieved a 24–14 record as of October 2025. In contrast, without him, the team holds a 9–7 record over the same period.
Despite a disappointing 2024 season marked by injuries and a 6–11 record, Purdy’s individual statistics remained strong, with 3,864 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
