Why isn’t Gardner Minshew playing for the Raiders against the Chiefs in the Black Friday game in week 13?
Quarterback Minshew will be replaced by Aidan O’Connell as the Raiders face a daunting trip to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Chiefs.
The Las Vegas Raiders travel to Missouri to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday (29 November) in just the second ever Black Friday NFL game.
The trip to Arrowhead Stadium looks to be a thankless task for Antonio Pierce’s team, who are 2-9 after losing seven consecutive games. By contrast, the Chiefs have the best record in the entire league, with their only defeat so far coming against the Buffalo Bills in week 11.
QB Gardner Minshew’s 2024 season over
To make matters worse for the Raiders, they go into Friday’s without quarterback Gardner Minshew. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 28-year-old has officially been placed on injured reserve and isn’t expected to play again this season after breaking his collarbone against the Denver Broncos last weekend.
Not for the first time this season, Minshew swaps places with Aidan O’Connell, who is available to face the Chiefs having been activated from injured reserve.
Minshew began the year as starting quarterback, leading the team to two victories in their first four games. He was then dropped in week 6 but quickly regained his starting role after O’Connell fractured his thumb, the injury from which he has now recovered.

The Black Friday game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs will be played at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday, November 29, with kickoff at 3:00 p.m. ET / 12:00 p.m. PT.
