Why isn’t George Pickens playing for the Steelers against the Eagles in Week 15?

Pickens remains unavailable to the Pittsburgh Steelers, having already missed the Pennsylvanians’ Week 14 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Wide receiver George Pickens will today miss his second NFL game in a row, as the Pittsburgh Steelers bid to clinch a playoff place in their Week 15 match-up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

What do Steelers need to make playoffs?

The 10-3 Steelers will make sure of their ticket to the postseason as long as they avoid defeat at Lincoln Financial Field.

What injury does Pickens have?

The Steelers have ruled Pickens out of the trip to Philadelphia, as the 23-year-old continues to recover from a hamstring injury that has troubled him since the days leading up to Pittsburgh’s Week 14 victory over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.

Speaking to reporters this midweek, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that a scan conducted on Pickens after the Browns win delivered worse news than expected. “The injury did show up on MRI [and] it’s a little bit more significant than what we imagined,” Tomlin said. “We’re just in the mindset now of getting him healthy as quickly as we possibly can.”

“He’s to grow up in a hurry”

Now in his third year in the NFL, Pickens has started 10 games this season, receiving for 850 yards and three touchdowns, catching 55 of 90 passes.

After registering 74 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ 44-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13, Pickens was publicly scolded by Tomlin for picking up two personal fouls - one for taunting after a catch, and another for celebrating with a finger-gun gesture after a catch. “He’s got to grow up, and he’s got to grow up in a hurry,” Tomlin said.
