Why isn’t Terrel Bernard playing for the Bills against the Jaguars? Monday Night Football

Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard won’t be available for today’s NFL regular-season clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars, as he recovers from an injury suffered in the Bills’ Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins.
What injury does Terrel Bernard have?
Bernard was forced off in the first quarter of the 31-10 victory in Miami, after sustaining a pectoral injury. On their official injury report, Buffalo have listed the 25-year-old as out of the Monday Night Football match-up with the Jaguars, together with cornerback Taron Johnson (arm).
Speaking to the media at the weekend, Bills head coach Sean McDermott appeared optimistic that Bernard’s pectoral issue is not serious enough to warrant placing him on the team’s injured reserved list (IR). Under NFL rules, players included on the IR must sit out a minimum of four games.
“I feel like we won’t have to go in that direction,” McDermott told reporters when asked whether the Bills were planning to add Bernard to the IR. However, he cautioned: “I can’t make that statement 100%.”
A Bills team captain this season
Drafted from the Baylor Bears in 2022, Bernard has started every Bills regular-season game since the beginning of the 2023 campaign. Earlier this month, he was announced as a Buffalo team captain for the first time in his NFL career, sharing the duties with Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
“It’s been really fun to watch him develop as a leader,” McDermott said of Bernard in the wake of the announcement, per BuffaloBills.com’s Alec White. “His leadership is important and everyone feels that.”
