NFL fans in Mexico will have to wait to see a game on home soil until after the 2023 season.

Peter O’Reilly, Executive Vice President of the NFL, previously announced that the league will not host any games in Mexico in 2023 due to renovations at the Estadio Azteca ahead of the 2026 Soccer World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The remodelling of Mexico’s largest stadium is expected to take between 12 and 18 months to complete.

While there remains league-wide interest in bringing the NFL to Mexico, the league investigated the possibility of playing a game in Monterrey or Guadalajara, but found that no other stadium in the country was able to accommodate the NFL’s strict requirements.

International Games

Earlier this year, the NFL announced the opponents, dates, and locations for the five International Games to be played in 2023 in London, UK and Frankfurt, Germany.

As part of its commitment to play regular season games in Germany for the next four years (beginning in 2022) the NFL have two games in Frankfurt this year, having played the inaugural Germany game in Munich in November 2022.

Kansas City Chiefs played the Miami Dolphins at the Frankfurt Stadium, the home of German soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday 5 November.

New England Patriots play Indianapolis Colts in Germany

On Sunday 12 November, the New England Patriots face the Indianapolis Colts, also at the Frankfurt Stadium, to complete the 2023 NFL International Games.
