Why Jason Kelce ditched the gray beard for a darker look
Jason Kelce finally explained why he dyed his beard after fans lit up social media about his unexpected new look.
Going gray is a normal part of getting older for most of us, and some people take it better than others, with many choosing to cover up the gray hairs. But it surprised fans of Jason Kelce to see he’d dyed his beard a dark brown, covering the grays of his own. But he had an explanation for it that had nothing to do with vanity.
Jason Kelce reveals the real reason he dyed his beard
During an episode of Kelce’s podcast “New Heights”, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis, fans noticed his darker look. A lot of people tuned into that episode considering pop star Taylor Swift was making an appearance. So the 37-year-old’s beard got even more attention than it may have otherwise. You might even say Swift put his beard on the map.
After fans called him out on it on social media, the former Eagles star said at the time that he would reveal the “good reason” for the dye job at a later time, and so he did on Wednesday.
On the most recent episode of “New Heights”, Kelce revealed that the darker beard wasn’t about vanity, but part of a comedic bit for Garage Beer, the beer he and Travis now co-own and operate.
“The dyed beard came from an idea for Garage Beer where I was going to do this bit where we go back in time, so I wanted to be younger,” Kelce said.
“Initially, I was going to shave my beard completely, and then I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not doing that. I hate my face too much, so I’m going to keep the beard.’ But I’ll dye it to make me look younger, which did work. Objectively, that’s going to come off great,” Kelce said.
Though the color turned out darker than planned, Kelce said the look has grown on him, but he still misses his signature gray.
“I didn’t do it out of vanity. I did it for a bit. That’s all I’m saying. I think there’s a distinct difference.”
