Will Aaron Jones play for the Vikings against the Lions in Week 7?
The Minnesota Vikings running back is listed as questionable after being forced off with an injury in the Week 5 win over the New York Jets.
Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones is listed as questionable for his team’s Week 7 clash with the Detroit Lions today, but is reportedly in line to face the Michiganders at U.S. Bank Stadium.
What injury does Aaron Jones have?
Jones was only a limited participant in Vikings practice on Thursday and Friday, after a hamstring injury saw him limp out of Minnesota’s Week 5 win over the New York Jets. The 29-year-old was forced off in the first quarter of the clash in London on October 6, having already felt discomfort ahead of kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I was like, ‘Hey, I’m going to go out there and tough it out as long as I can,’” Jones told reporters on Thursday. “And then I got hit on a play […] and that was the end of it for me that week. [The medical staff] were like, ‘Hey let’s not make it any worse. We want you out there, we want to have you for the long run. So it’s not worth going back out there right now.’”
With the Vikings one of four teams given a bye in Week 6, Jones said the extra recovery time this afforded him “has done a lot” for his recovery. “We’re going to see how the week progresses,” he concluded, when asked whether he expected to play against the Vikings.
And early on Sunday, ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Jones’ rehabilitation has progressed sufficiently since his midweek news conference: the former Green Bay Packers star is expected to play against the Lions, a source has told Schefter.
Jones' 2024 Vikings stats
Signed by the Vikings on a one-year contract in March, Jones has registered 350 rushing yards and one rushing TD for the Vikings, who are 5-0 so far in the 2024 regular season. The ex-UTEP Miners running back has also received for 167 yards and one touchdown this year.

While the Lions may not be able to match the Vikings’ 100% record in 2024, Dan Campbell’s men have also made an excellent start to the season. Detroit are 4-1, having scored more than 40 points in both of their last two games.
In Week 6, the Lions condemned the Cowboys to their biggest home defeat since Jerry Jones took over as Dallas owner in 1989, winning 47-9 at AT&T Stadium.
