Will Alvin Kamara play for the Saints against the Packers? NFL injury update
Alvin Kamara’s fitness has been a topic for fans all week: here’s the latest.
Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been a talking topic all week as he has failed to participate in practice ahead of his side’s Week 16 clash against the Green Bay Packers.
Kamara, 29, was questionable for last week’s game against the Commanders after missing practice through illness. He ended up playing, finishing the game with 12 yards and four receptions.
But he has since suffered a groin injury and didn’t take part in Thursday’s session.
Interim head coach Darren Rizzi gave an update on the RB’s injury status, which doesn’t look too promising. “The situation with Alvin eight now, it was probably a little more significant than we initially thought. So he’s going to be week-to-week at the moment. I’m going to be honest, it doesn’t look great for this week, we’ll see what the next day brings. It’s doesn’t look great for this coming week but we’ll see whether that’s going to be a multiple week, we’ll play that one by ear but he doesn’t look great for this week”.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kamara’s injury could be more serious than thought and possibly season-ending. The Saints have three regular season games left to play and with a 5-9 record, are practically out of the playoff
What is Alvin Kamara’s record this season?
As well as Kamara, Derek Carr (left hand), Bub Means (ankle) and Chase Young (illness) both missed Thursday’s practice, with Juwan Johnson (foot) and Chris Olave (head) only able to participate in some of the drills given their physical status.
The positive news for Saints fans is that Chris Olave underwent a recheck and has been cleared for football activity after completing the five-step concussion protocol.
Overall, Kamara has taken part in 14 games this season and has 950 yards and six touchdowns on 228 carries.
In his most recent game against Washington, the Georgia native managed a thrilling 16 rush attempts for 71 rushing yards (4.4 yards per carry) and a rushing touchdown, as well as 5 receptions for 51 yards (10.2 yards per reception) and a receiving touchdown.
The NFL regular season game between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers is scheduled to take place at Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Monday 23 December, kicking off at 7:15 p.m. CT (8:15 p.m. RT/5:15 p.m. PT).
